Unemployment and inflation were low, and wages were high. Middle-class people had more money to spend, because the variety. It became availability of consumer goods expanded along with the economy, they also had more things to buy.

Once World War ll ended , William Levitt bought land to build modest inexpensive homes. These houses suited the lives of young families.This allowed mothers to stay home and work on house work. These homes consisted of an open floor plan and had backgrounds. The building of suburbs also built a new set of values, which included the vision of the traditional family that usually had three to four children. Suburbs became the new glamorous countryside. Suburbs changed the American family, as children moved away from the inner city, away from extended family support in search of the quiet tree lined streets, and white picket fences. Families had to travel further to visit one another. The suburbs were very popular do to the government giving the GI bill to vets of the World WarII and Korean war which helped them with morgage and college.
